The tube that feeds fuel to the injector from the fuel rail is a on-time torque to yield piece. If anyone tells you that you do not need to replace them, they are

7.3 injector rebuild. Ok glad to finally be a member after hanging around for a few months and researching and fixing what I could before actually making a post. That being said im stumped on what to do. Have a 1999 7.3 with 156k picked up a few months ago and have been going through the problems one by one.
ridiculously_necessary. you can use a vaccum styl pump to draw it out of the hpop, but honestly, there are rail plugs in the head, pop them out, let it drain, then change the injector. pull the glow for that cylinder and crank to spray out excess oil that made its way in there. unplug the cps or uvch to be sure it doesnt start on you.
Reconnect the battery. Prime the fuel system by turning the ignition key to the “start” position a few times (with several seconds in place). You’ll hear the fuel pump prime the lines. Do this at least 3 times to pressurize the fuel lines. Inspect the engine compartment for fuel leaks at the injector rails.
Both cars are still on their original injectors. On the E70 X5 35d, injectors 5 and 6 are known to be problematic and due to corrosion on the outside from moisture due a leaking rear panel under the windshield. The electrical connection to each injector gets corroded but the injector itself is fine.
On average, diesel fuel injectors should be replaced every 95,000 miles. Of course, several factors go into play such as operating conditions, the load being put on the engine, and the quality of fuel used. If you bought the vehicle used, a thorough inspection will tell you how much life is left on the injectors and other vital key components.
Torque the hold down bolts to spec, throw on the fuel return line with new washers and bolts if you have ‘em, and reinstall the rest of the parts you removed. On the passenger side of the engine, there are a few parts in the way that will need to be moved to access the valve cover.
Some diesel fuel additives have compounds to control injector deposits. You could have some kind of deposit issue with the fuel you’re using. I’d consider using something before a 3rd injector needs to be replaced. Scan the ECM on a warm engine to check your cylinder balance to see what the other 2 injectors are doing.
